There are many Boca fans and other who enjoy this, I saw that on my timeline on Facebook. But I'm a bit meeeh about it. There won't be a real superclásico next season and if we are really unlucky there won't be one for a couple of years. That's depressing. Yesterday, it made me think it's like Barcelona being relegated... it makes me grin in the first moment but afterwards it's just meeeh. Clubs like River and other big ones around the world should go into second devision... it's a shame. :(
I saw photos of some Boca fans celebrating River's downfall in the streets of Buenos Aires. Apparently Velez fans were ecstatic as well (they don't like River either). Well, I guess they don't realize yet how much this is going to hurt their own clubs. NO MORE SUPERCLASICO and its associated revenue. Not to mention that Boca itself had a horrible season (especially the first half) and could also be facing relegation sooner rather than later.
I think if ANY of the Big Five clubs go down in Argentina it means a loss of a pile of revenue for all of the other clubs. So many people were attracted to the really big games and now the league will suffer for that.
There was some crazy talk that the AFA might find a way to keep River up. Wouldn't really surprise me, since the AFA is so corrupted anyway.
I guess we'll see what happens. But for sure it's a black day around the world for all football fans. :(
Thank you. It's a sad day, a black day for football.
I would love to see the team back up next time there is a promotion/relegation (the system is so crazy, I think it is every 3 seasons). I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. :/
Every summer the last two teams in the table (counting the last THREE years) are relegated. The third and fourth last team have to play relagation vs the tird and fourth team from the second league! SIMPLE! River has the chance to come back next summer. They have to play good!
AFA made this THREE-years system to protect the bigger clubs because usual these teams are not bad over three years. This time it didn't work and it's really sad River has to be the one!
I always forget the exact terms of the relegation/promotion system. As well, I thought they were going to change it, but I could be thinking of somewhere else and not in Argentina.
If River could come back next summer that would be wonderful. I really do think that if one of the Big Five goes down, then ALL teams suffer. The River boys can do it if they really want it!
Of course not ALL fans would be happy about something like this. I'm sure there are some who see that it is not a nice thing to have one of the most interesting clubs be relegated only to have some mediocre team come up and play against their own team, to almost NO interest at all! Sure, each team has its own fans, but not that many teams have followers WORLDWIDE, who buy shirts and travel to games from far away, or arrange for friendlies with the BIG teams in their cities, and all kinds of other stuff that is going to impact on this whole situation.
LOL...I am sure you wouldn't dance if it would hurt your own club in some way. :)
