There were a number of friendly games played over the past weekend, as warm-ups before the various big tournaments and World Cup qualifiers begin. One interesting match was between Mexico and Wales. Both teams were missing key players. A number of the Welsh players (including Gareth Bale) are actually being considered for inclusion in Stuart Pearce's U-21 England squad, while a lot of top Mexicans are taking part in the Toulon Tournament, currently taking place in France. The Mexican U-23 team will also be playing in the Olympics later this summer. :)

Here are some photos of both teams.

I am so late with this! On January 19th, Nacional de Montevideo, the Uruguayan team, beat Danubio in order to win the Copa Bimbo. Shortly afterward, their star playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro was transferred to Ajax, Amsterdam. That's him, below.

YES!!! There is a Copa Bimbo! It is a pre-season tournament held in Uruguay that was just started last year. It is composed of four teams who play a two-day tournament in Montevideo. The 2010 version features Nacional de Montevideo, Penarol, Danubio (all Uruguayan teams) and an invited team from another country. Club Atletico Banfield of Argentina was invited but turned it down, so the fourth team this year is Nacional de Paraguay. It is sponsored by the Mexican bakery company, Bimbo. XD

Here are a few pics from the game between Nacional de Montevideo and Penarol, won by Nacional on penalties.

A teaser:

Nacional celebrates because they will go to the final on Monday night.
