Wow. Spain continues to impress. Their reserve team is quite awesome. If you'd like to read my opinions on yesterday's game, please click below.
SPAIN VS GREECE - MY IMPRESSIONS JUNE 18/08
LOL. In the tunnel before the game started it looked like Cesc was trying to calm down Sergio Garcia, who appeared to be suffering from a case of nerves. Well, it was his first cap ever for his national team. Wow...Raul Albiol is friggin' gorgeous! And Ruben de la Red! Ruben is playing! How awesome. Spain is such a good-looking team they should win the 'best-looking' team prize this year, IMHO!
I thought the Greek team looked really old. The players looked tired in the line while the national anthems were playing. They started off playing as if they were tired too, but they sure got their second wind after they scored their one and only goal, and managed to scare shit out of me.
I almost didn't recognize Dani Guiza without his facial hair. Ugh. I didn't like it. To me he looked like some dodgy porn actor out of some third-rate porn film and he didn't play like he was a footballer either! I thought he was horrible for most of the game - he seemed slow and right off his timing. The idiot would hold onto the ball for too long and get dispossessed or he struck too quickly without looking for a proper opening. Plus he caused Greece to score by fouling someone 30 metres out. But as the game went on, he got better and ended up with an assist and a goal! However, I wanted Aragones to replace him with Villa so David could maybe get another goal towards his Pichichi!
Juanito started off buggering up twice at left back. I wasn't impressed with him at all. He knocked a ball out for a Greek corner and then he made a foul, creating a great free kick opportunity for Greece at the 4-minute mark. Luckily Pepe Reina caught the ball.
Frigging Greece got all the corners, throw-ins and free kicks. I was so frustrated I yelled and swore at the TV for all the first half and some of the second. The Spanish reserves were so much more talented and fit than the Greeks, yet they screwed around for far too long before they started scoring goals. I know it's partly because they were the reserves and haven't played together all that much, but still. I would have hated it if they lost, even if it didn't matter. Because I believe it does matter. Keeping up a winning mentality is everything. Look what happened to Portugal.
Santi Cazorla came on at 57 minutes for Iniesta. He was great. Sure-footed and with more tricks than a tree full of monkeys, to quote Ray Hudson, he looked confident and impressed me a lot. So did Ruben De La Red, who scored a screamer past the Greek keeper. Ruben is a big guy, strong and able to fight off defenders, plus he has a wicked shot for either passing or scoring. I think he should be a regular starter. Fernando Navarro made some nice plays, I thought, and Xabi Alonso looked strong enough to start the next game too. And Raul Albiol was like this wonderful cool rock in the defensive back line, calmly clearing away everything he could from Greece. So dependable, and gorgeous too. I hear he may be going to Arsenal. Mmmmm. Awesome if he does. Wenger is smart if he wants Albiol, IMO.
I think one of the Spanish team's best qualities is that they never give up. They keep attacking and looking to score goals right up to the end and I love that!
Okay, picspam time!

LOL @ Sergio's panties.

Date: 2008-06-21 12:14 pm (UTC)OMFG I just thought. How are we going to stand it with potentially Serg, Fer, Migi, Ruben and C-Ronaldo ALL on the same team???? If they all played at the same time I wouldn't know where to look, and I'd be coming in my pants all game long!!! LOL
