FOOTBALL MEME - DAYS 27 AND 28

Day 27 – Which football shirts do you own?
Too many, but also not enough of the ones I want. National Teams: Uruguay 2010, Mexico 2010 and also 2006, Paraguay 2006, Portugal, Argentina (the dark away shirt), There are others I want but I am limited to what is available in the shops unless I order online.
Club Teams: Toronto FC, River Plate, Arsenal FC (as a Spurs fan I can't believe I have Arsenal's jersey and not a Tottenham shirt!), Bayern Munich with Schweinsteiger on the back, Augsburg FC's 2007 jersey, Real Betis with Sergio Garcia on the back (from 2009), Benfica from 2007, several shirts of Sevilla FC (again, I can't believe I have shirts from both Sevilla and Betis, rival teams). I need more! I am missing those teams I love the best! :( I can't believe I didn't buy an Athletic shirt when I was in Bilbao. :(
Day 28 – Most overrated player and most underrated player?
Most overrated: Lionel Messi (I'll change my opinion when he does something for the national team.)
Most underrated: Duh. Radamel Falcao of FC Porto. Although perhaps now some people are beginning to take notice. :)

Date: 2011-06-04 12:39 pm (UTC)agree about messi, but i think roma is far more underrated than falcao:P i think neither of them would score as many as roma if they had so little playing time.

Date: 2011-06-04 06:15 pm (UTC)True, Roma is also very underrated! But I chose Falcao because of the tremendous achievement he made in the Europa League. (I always knew he was a great player...I've been a big fan for the past 5 years.) :)

Date: 2011-06-04 03:09 pm (UTC)I would have said Wayne Rooney with the same caveat but my husband says I'm being unfair.

Date: 2011-06-04 06:12 pm (UTC)But in Wayne Rooney's defense, he has NEVER won 'World's Best Player'. Therefore I feel that if you have won such a prestigious award as this, you should be able to deliver. ;)

Date: 2011-06-05 02:42 pm (UTC)In Berlin all shirts are expensive!
*lol* @ Augsburg - hey have a football team there???
Maybe in Spain shirt are generally cheaper???
Maybe you will buy the next time a Hertha shirt???

Date: 2011-06-08 01:44 pm (UTC)The shirts WERE cheaper in Spain! NOT CHEAP in Lisbon!!!
YES, I will buy a Hertha shirt when I come next year! (I wish Arne was still playing for them. I would buy an 'Arne' Hertha shirt for sure!) :(

I didn't know Lisbon is expensive :(
Let's hope Hertha will be on a top place!!!

Date: 2011-06-06 08:40 pm (UTC)And I can't believe you didn't buy an Athletic shirt either! O___O Well, one more reason for you to come back to Bilbao! :D And at least you got the Augsburg shirt! :D You can't imagine how happy I am that they got promoted and will play against the likes of Bayern and Dortmund and Schalke the upcoming season! :D
I agree with what you said about Messi's performances for the national team. The media and lots of people have already elevated Messi to the football olymp and compare him to players like Pelé and Maradona but they completely forget that all the truly "great" players in football history have had great successes with both their clubs AND their national teams. As long as Messi doesn't deliver for Argentina, he won't be amongst the greatest for me.
I suppose Falcao's disadvantage is that he plays for Colombia and doesn't really get to shine in international tournaments like the World Cup. Imagine him playing for Argentina or Uruguay, for instance! People would have noticed him a lot earlier!

Date: 2011-06-08 01:28 pm (UTC)I think it's awesome that Augsburg got promoted. I remember how gutted I was last year when they didn't quite make it. I can't wait for the new season to start!!! And getting to 'know' the Augsburg players! And now you will be able to see Bayern play in your own city, instead of having to travel to the Allianz Arena! LOL...I know! It's so FAR! LMAO.
Yeah...I feel kind of bad for saying that about Messi, but it's just that I am annoyed by all the praise he gets in the press. I do believe that without Barcelona, he would not be anywhere near as good. And even though I HATE to admit it, I think CR7 is better. He didn't need the support of an entire team in order to accomplish what he has. He is fearless and it doesn't matter what team he plays for...he can still be the best player on it. (But that is not saying that I like him! He is still far too selfish, something Messi is not.) :(
Yeah...Falcao, like Messi, went directly to another club, River Plate in Argentina, without playing in Colombia. I think they took him when he was 15 years old! And then FC Porto is the only other club he has played for, so again, that is like Messi, going to Europe and staying with the same team.
Of course, the transfer window probably has some surprises in store for us, but I really wouldn't be shocked if Falcao stays with Porto, just because he is not the type to change clubs like changing gloves.
