Day 2 – Who is your current favourite player (you can only choose ONE) and what is it about them that makes you like them above any other? Post your favourite picture of them.

2. This is difficult because I love so many players...but currently it is Augusto Fernandez of Velez Sarsfield in Argentina. He used to play for River Plate and won the 2008 Clausura with them. I've always been a fan of Augusto's. When he and fellow Argentine Gonzalo Bergessio moved to AS St. Etienne in France, I would try to follow his progress there. I would check the team's website all the time and watch ASSE games on TV whenever they showed them here, which was infrequently.

Augusto was with River when they came to Toronto for a friendly. He was gorgeous in person, but he would disappear in the midfield as a player, even though I could see he was working hard. Recently his form has improved tremendously at Velez. The way this team plays in a beautiful, flowing style, suits Augusto well. When I checked his Wiki page it says that since the last half of this season has started, Augusto has scored as many goals for Velez (3 in the league and 3 in the Copa Libertadores) as he has in his entire career so far, and he recently scored his first double against Liga de Quito. I would describe him as an attacking midfielder, but he is listed as a right winger on Wiki. With an adjustment to his position, perhaps his talents are better utilized.

Augusto is a quiet player, never ostentatious in any way, in his celebrations or otherwise. But clearly his special qualities on the pitch are beginning to emerge, as he helps to drive Velez towards the double this season. First the league, then the Copa Libertadores.
