SOME MUSINGS ABOUT COMMUNITIES

I've been thinking lately about LJ comms. I think we can become so enthusiastic about something we post and read about on LJ and want to contribute more by creating communities where we can look at, discuss and become more involved in our particular passions. But sometimes we can go a little overboard, try to do too much, too quickly, and then we crash big-time. I am guilty of doing this for sure. I have FIVE livejournal accounts and NINE communities! As well, there are a few other communites that I actively post in.
My LJ accounts are:
This one, of course. :)
celebrian_found: This was supposed to be a journal in which I could post my Tolkien fandom writings, but it's been a long time since I wrote anything! However, I have been recently looking over some old, unfinished stories and have decided to make a real effort to finish them and do some posting. :)
jennislash: I created this one as a place to post my slash fics. However, I don't really use it. But lately I have written a few things for
footballverse so I will start posting the stories in this journal rather than my "main" one.
digdigil: Aaahhh...my original journal. I started it during the Tolkien phase, when I started writing in that fandom after becoming involved at theonering.net some years ago...was it really 2005? I haven't used this journal in a long time. It's really sad. I should start posting some RL stuff there, perhaps, and keep the football stuff on this one. I'll think about it. One thing I hate doing is cross-posting!
miguelito_22: Hahahaha. Never mind! It's all over now! XD
My LJ communities are:
hot_argie_love: Yeahhh, baby! The first one I created and the one I love most! I DO try to keep active on this one! For Argentine football and occasionally some hotties from argentinemen.blogspot.com.
4colombiafooty: Created to post about my favourite South American football team and the league! I DO keep this one active as well!
mex_primera: For the Mexican football league...sadly, I don't spend enough time at it.
la_celeste_rox: Created after the World Cup, to celebrate the Uruguayan National Team and players. Sadly, there is not that much to report now. Sure, I could search for articles of interest and photos of the players, but I have let this work slide badly. There is a really fabulous comm for the Urus called
fuckyeahceleste which does such a great job that I don't have to! LOL. But seriously, I should spend some more time on this one...
casa_arbeloa: I co-mod this one and I suppose I let it slide because it's easy to let my other mod do the work! But I know that is lazy and horrible and I really should do better. This comm was set up to celebrate the great player for Real Madrid (and previously Liverpool FC) named Alvaro Arbeloa.
4_atleti: An Atletico Madrid fan community. I usually keep fairly reasonably up-to-date on this one, though I normally only post picspams.
all_things_epl: This is the one I feel the worst about. I LOVE the EPL and it was set up to gush over the league and post major picspams and articles of interest. But I've let this slide horribly recently. And I never got off the ground with posting articles, mostly only doing match picspams. I hate myself. I really need to get back in gear on this comm!
ever_24: This one is weird. It's for Ever Banega, an Argentine footballer who plays for Valencia CF in Spain. I love the little guy, but there really isn't that much stuff on him to post here, except for the odd picspam. I thought about turning it into more of a Valencia comm, but I really don't like Valencia THAT much. I mean, they're OK, but I like other La Liga teams better! Oh, well...live and learn. :)
olympic_love: This was set up during the 2008 Olympic Games, and I still intend on using it whenever the Olympic games occur. I made a few posts during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and plan on posting there during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London!
Okay, that's all of my comms. Now, a few more musings on other peoples'. I've joined a lot of comms over the past few years, in fact so many that I had to 'cut' some of them. I did this because I found there were far too many postings, sometimes more than once a day, and frankly, that was too much to read through all the time! I was missing some posts by some of my flisters that I really wanted to see.
Now lately I've noticed that some mods of some of the comms have announced that they are no longer going to be active and are putting these comms into hiatus. I started to think about it and I can see why this would happen. In some cases I think it may come down to the fact that they burned themselves out by trying to do too much. Of course, sometimes real life can also come into play and cause one to give things up online. There can be many reasons, I suppose.
I seriously want to continue with most of my own comms because I care/cared about the subjects when I started them. Yes, sometimes RL gets in the way big-time. This is always going to happen. But I want to take a calm approach and only post things in the comms when there is something to show/say. Let's hope I can keep up with these desires! Believe me, there are other comms I am tempted to create, but dare not! :)

Date: 2011-03-20 05:18 pm (UTC)It's a great idea to connect all the comms into one...however, I think that's why I created this journal...then it got so I was posting too much which is why I created the comms! I don't like to spam my flisters, so it was a way to break up my posting that so those not interested in certain things wouldn't have to see them.
Then it got almost out of control. :/

Date: 2011-03-03 05:02 am (UTC)I just have this one account. I guess I should have made one for icons and one for personal blogging, but this was meant to be icons-only when I set it up... then I got chatty. XP

Date: 2011-03-20 05:21 pm (UTC)Haha, yes, that miguelito LJ was only for an RPG! :P
Yeah, things happen. I only created the comms in order to break up my postings when I used to spam LJ. Now that I've calmed down a lot, I don't know if I need them all. :/

Date: 2011-03-24 10:30 am (UTC)And I made all those comms so that I wouldn't be constantly spamming my personal journal...that way I thought the people interested in one particular thing could follow that comm and not have to be bothered seeing it in my LJ. However, I got carried away...
I guess I could just go back to posting everything in my LJ. If I saved up a month's worth of pics and posted only that often, it wouldn't be too many posts. Maybe that's the way to go! :)
