With both teams exhibiting technical brilliance, Paraguay proved to be the winner, with a perfect set of penalty kicks. It was a historic night for Paraguay as it would have been for Japan also. The team had never reached the quarter-finals before.
The way both teams played through 120 minutes it looked like none of the players had had any sleep the night before.
