What a game! Valencia had two men sent off, Atletico was robbed of a penalty kick and the referee was relieved of his refereeing duties. The score was 4 - 1 for Atletico Madrid.

Following is an article reprinted from goal.com on the referee's suspension:
Atletico referee given his marching orders
Referee Alfonso Perez Burrull has paid the price for his mistakes in Atletico Madrid's 4-1 victory over Valencia.
He will now not take charge of a match next week.
Perez Burrull was supposed to oversee Osasuna's game against Getafe but the Comite Tecnico de Arbitros (technical committee of referees) has announced that he and his assistant will be replaced by Mejuto Gonzalez and Novoa Robles.
The 44-year-old denied Atletico two penalties - one of which appeared a stonewall spot-kick when Atletico winger Jose Reyes was scythed down by Ever Banega inside the box.
And there was more controversy to come.
Atletico's Sergio Aguero looked set to bundle his way past Carlos Marchena in the area but his progress was stopped illegally as the Valencia defender, whilst lying on his back, stuck out his arm to block the ball.
Perez Burrull was not interested, but he soon found himself surrounded by furious Atletico players and, after consulting with his fourth official, eventually awarded the spot-kick and showed Marchena a red card.
Last year, Perez Burrull found himself frozen out for a month after ignoring two clear penalties against Juanfran in Osasuna's match at Real Madrid and, to add insult to injury, he then sent the Osasuna winger off for two yellow cards - one for protesting the first decision and the other for diving in an attempt to claim the second.

I hate missing Valencia games, and I love seeing Forlán goals, but I'm so so so so happy I didn't see this game. I would have been so mad at that ref, and mad about the way that it went, and mad that I missed the hockey for this game.
What a rough game.
Haha, though, Mata is such a fun person to look at pictures of. The 2nd one of him by himself with his tongue out is really endearing, and the one of him and Reyes going to head the ball- they look so happy.
Um, and I'm getting a crush on De Gea. I can't help it.
And that picture of Alexis with the ball and the Atlético huddle in the background </3 Thanks for sharing! They really areg great pics :o)

Date: 2010-03-03 03:56 pm (UTC)And I don't think Miguel deserved to be sent off. Marchena, yes. And Ever! OMG, I never yelled at the TV screen so much as for Ever to stop being such an idiot in this game! To see him and Kun battling occasionally was also very enjoyable. LOL. And I love Mata. To see him coming off because of Marchena's stupidity was just....sad. :(
But I was so glad for Atleti! They are finally beginning to show some great attacking moves again, and the addition of Tiago in midfield has given them more strength, better possession and more defensive help. He's amazing and my current footie crush!♥
De Gea is so very attractive...XDDDD. As well as a really good GK!
You're welcome! I thought the pics were awesome too, and had to share! :)
