Monterrey won the Interliga tournament, and Estudiantes Tecos came second, to take the last two of five Mexican spots in the 2010 Copa Libertadores.
Below the cut is a link to an article on the tournament, the teams to play in the Copa Lib, and a picspam from the final games.
A teaser pic:
Rubens Sambueza of Tecos ensures their place in the Copa Libertadores.

The article from MLS.com can be seen here:
http://web.mlsnet.com/mls/gsc/article.jsp?ymd=20100114&content_id=7914886&vkey=gsc&fext=.jsp
And this is a reprint of some of it, the part about the Mexican teams in the Copa Lib and what other teams they'll be playing:
"Monterrey and Tecos are among five Mexican teams in the Libertadores. Morelia qualified straight from the fall Apertura, and Chivas de Guadalajara and San Luis received invitations into the final 16 after they problems related to the H1N1 epidemic led to their withdrawal from last year's competition heading into knockout stages.
Morelia will open Libertadores play Feb. 10 at Argentine club Banfield. Its other Group 6 opponents are Nacional (Uruguay) and Deportivo Cuenca (Ecuador).
Tecos, as the "Mexico 3" entrant, will face Juan Aurich in a preliminary-round playoff, Jan. 27 in Peru and Feb. 3 at home. A victory would put the Owls in Group 3, against defending champion Estudiantes de La Plata (Argentina) and two lesser sides, Bolivar (Bolivia) and Alianza Lima (Peru). The opener would be Feb. 11 at Estudiantes."
And a picspam from the final few games:

Date: 2010-01-16 08:08 pm (UTC)I tell you, those Argentines! It is all up to them! Neri Cardozo had a better game than Rolfi Montenegro in the final. I don't know what happened to Rolfi, I guess he had a good defender on him...but he disappeared. And Rubens Sambueza (remember from River? they should have kept him!) won it for Tecos.
It looks like most of the Mexican teams will have a tough time in the Copa Lib, though. But we'll see. After watching the Interliga I am liking very much how the Mexicans play. For me it is a lot like the Argentine way!

Date: 2010-01-17 01:21 pm (UTC)But the Copa Sudamericana is weird! WHY 8 Brazilian teams??? Most of them are shit! The only good thing is that there is more chance for Botafogo and seeing Abreu! And at least there are 6 Argie teams in that too.
Neri and Rubens were big factors in helping their teams into the Copa Lib! Let's hope they can advance a bit. It will be hard, though. There are many really good teams in it. I can hardly wait!
