Antonio Di Nigris was the middle of three brothers, two of whom played football. The oldest, Alfonso, is a Mexican model and actor. Antonio played for many teams, one of them being Villareal in Spain, but was currently playing with Greek side AE Larissa, when he died, presumably from a heart attack, on November 16th. Antonio was born April 1, 1978 and had suffered from congestive heart failure, but he and his family considered this to be a non-serious problem.

The youngest brother, Aldo, plays for Mexican club C.F. Monterrey. It was always Antonio's dream that he and Aldo would play together on the Mexican National Team in the World Cup.

They were a beautiful family. Here are a few pictures of Antonio and his brothers.

EDIT: Rafael Marquez of Barcelona speaks about the death in an article I had forgotten to add.

An article by Rafael Marquez from goal.com:

De Nigris' Death Has "Profound Impact" On Marquez

Rafael Marquez said Antonio De Nigris' death was a significant loss to Mexican football.

Nov 16, 2009 9:08:35 AM

Antonio De Nigris was not as accomplished a footballer as countryman Rafael Marquez, but the two had similar careers.

De Nigris played for the Mexican national team, though not at the World Cup, and also plied his trade abroad. In fact, De Nigris was known for his globetrotting as he played in such places are Turkey, Colombia and Brazil.

De Nigris died Sunday of a heart attack in Greece, where De Nigris had spent his final days with Greek club Larissa.

Marquez said he was having a difficult time dealing with De Nigris' death.

"I didn't expect something like this to happen, and it's had a profound impact on me," Marquez was quoted as saying in Mexican daily El Financiero. "(He was) a tireless player and a very good person."

De Nigris spent part of his career in Spain, having played for Villarreal and Polideportivo Ejido. He starred for Monterrey in his homeland and also played for America, Pumas and Puebla.

For both his accomplishments with the national team - De Nigris scored four goals in 16 appearances for El Tricolor - and his various clubs were significant, Marquez said. De Nigris was among the trailblazers who helped open doors for Mexicans to play in South America and Europe.

"His death is a significant loss for football in general and Mexican football in particular," Marquez said.

I honestly don't know how people get through these things. I mean, I've lost friends and family members but I did not have to continue playing in a strenuous sport that takes all your mental and physical strength! After watching the Schalke-Hannover game today I was thinking how hard it must have been for the Hannover guys. :(

My thoughts are a bit different.
We all have to handle losses. One can it handle better and the other not.
Enke is for me a totally different case to De Nigris! De Nigris died because of a tragic illness.
Enke made an end to his life by himself! For me that is no way! Will never be a way! He was selfish in my eyes! What about his wife and his child??? Didn't he think about what they are feeling? Sorry I cannot feel sorry for that man!
These are only my thought and I respect all others.

You are right. The De Nigris case is a horrible tragedy that befell him but not by his own hand.

Suicide is difficult to understand. Mostly I think those who succeed have an inner wish to die and have had it almost always. Eventually if they keep the desire to themselves and tell nobody else about it then they will achieve their desire. It is the way these people are made. They did not make themselves think this way.

However much I understand that Enke suffered from depression and probably the death of his daughter worsened it, I also feel so badly for his wife and the child they adopted together. It is always the people left behind who suffer the most from the death of the ones they loved. And by their own hand is the worst possible way.

We have patients at work who have lost loved ones to murder and a couple who have lost people to suicide. Both are terrible to have to deal with and in both situations their relatives will always ask WHY did it have to happen?

It is hard to handle if someone you loves died but if some ends the life by his own... How to handle it?
Sorry for me is suicide NO way! I don't want to understand why people are doing it because I cannot respect it!
Is it an illness???
I know I can be very arrogant at times! My life was not always simple but there is ALWAYS a way!!! You don't have the right to end your life by suicide! Think about people who you leave behind...
Sorry these I cannot handle!

You see every day the people who lost someone. That's hard! Life for these people is hard!
People who ends their life by suicide are cowards in my eyes.

Sorry these are only the thoughts of an old woman with great life experience.

I think people who want to kill themselves have an illness, yes. It is like addiction too. Some can become addicted, some not at all. It is something gone haywire inside these people.

I know that I am not a depressive type person at all. Even if something bad happens and I feel sad about it I can get over it. But there are people who cannot. They live with their depression every day and sometimes it gets so bad that they truly want to die. But if they accept help then they can be put on drugs that will help them. For those who refuse the help, they will die.

It is like schizophrenia which is a condition caused by damage to the brain, usually physically. On medication these people can survive but if they go off of it they will usually die. In both cases, depression and schizophrenia, the sufferers cannot live by themselves because they cannot take care of themselves. With depression the person can live alone even while living with somebody else if they keep their feelings a secret. But if their urge to die is great, they will keep it secret so they can make it happen without anyone knowing and stopping them.

A lot of people think that these sufferers have control over their own thoughts, but I don't think they do.

I know there are mental illnesses. I know I have difficulties to understand it.
What happens with depressive people? Have they a damaged brain? Are the brain cells not working proper? I'm not in that theme and I don't understand it.

When my mother died I had a really hard and bad time but I had to care about my daughter! There are more important things than my life! To care about my daughter was much more important than my problems and I understand it!

Why people cannot talk about their problems? I know peolpe are all different....
All people should learn at school to talk about their problems! Maybe it would give less problems.

Depression is a physical problem. It is from not enough of a chemical in the brain called serotonin. The lack of the chemical can be from several different reasons. This is why it is important for these people to take their medication that can help them absorb this chemical artificially. It is like with thyroidism - hypo or hyper (too much or too little of the hormone is produced in the pituitary gland). The sufferers will feel certain symptoms and it can wreck their lives unless they take artificial thyroid hormones.

You know how some years ago people would blame other people for being fat and saying that they were pigs and ate too much? In some cases that is probably true, but in other cases it can be from having a thyroid condition. Weight gain can also come from certain drugs like antidepressants, which is why some people don't want to take them.

I think in school more should be taught about medical conditions and how they can affect how a person looks, talks, etc., and that it is not really their fault as if they can control it when they can't. I think that is a really good idea.

Like with Sean being autistic. If he suddenly blurts out something inappropriate, his teacher knows not to get mad at him because he cannot help himself. But it is still good to tell him about it so he knows that it is not acceptable and perhaps the teaching can help him a little bit to try and control himself.

Suicide is, of course, not acceptable either, and affected persons should always be told that they should be taking their medication or seeking help if it is not working.

Thanks for telling me about the illness. People should take their medics!

I have the GENS to be always a bit fat!!! I can eat nothing and I have probs to lose weight and the fucking shit Insuline want allow to burn the fat reserves in my body! I hate it! But if somebody would call me fat I would kick him!!! But I am very selfconfident, sometimes too much.

At school people should learn for their life and not how to solve math problems. (hahhaa I always liked math)

I really have all respect for people who can handle problems with their children! I don't know what I would have done. I had a friend with a very 'strange' son and she was a wonderful mother! It was so hard for her and she was always very optimistic. She had a really problem and not such very small 'problems' with football.

But really people should take their medicamentations!

Some medicines truly fix problems or at least help with them. But it is true that all medicines cause side effects, some of which are very bad!

It sucks to not eat anything and gain weight anyway! But you cannot do without the insulin so you must live with it.

When someone is in your family you see the problem differently and sometimes it does not seem like such a bad problem after all.

I'm glad about never had a really bad experience with my family.

They should search for a medic to reduce weight properly! But then ALL the DIET producing firms would lose and that will never be because there is toooooooooooo much money involved.
