TORONTO FC VS RIVER PLATE IN TORONTO!

jenni_blogThis post is rushed, sorry! I have to go to work. Last night I got home late after the game and uploaded all my pics from the game and before. I'll do a proper post when I get home tonight.
But here are some pics from the game that were posted online at the sports sites last night, plus a few of mine!
NO big name players for River! Except Matias Abelairas played all game, Rodrigo Archubi, Mauro Diaz and Lucas Orban played most of it. Augusto Fernandez was subbed on at 64 minutes. We got to see Erik Lamela too. He was subbed on near the end. Standouts were Leandro Chichizola in goal. He made some amazing stops, making the crowd "Ooohhh" and "Ahhhh". Matias Abelairas was really good, but the surprise for me was just how skilled Rodrigo Archubi is. He really wowed the fans with some spectacular plays and moves. He ran the most and covered the most ground as well. He has a patented back-heel pass that he used at least a dozen times and thrilled the crowd with. Everyone thought he was amazing.
The game wasn't so hot. It ended in a scoreless draw (I HATE that!) but since this was a cup tournament, it went to penalty kicks. Toronto FC was horrible at penalties (I thought as much) so River won 4-2. Leandro Chichizola stopped a pen! He was amazing! And Augusto Fernandez' hit the crossbar! *facepalm* I think he *facepalmed* too!

Date: 2009-07-23 10:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, the match was boring. Eddie hated it and told me not to take him to any more games! Even though he had to admit that the Millonarios-Barcelona(Ecuador) game last year was really exciting (a 4-3 score for Barcelona). My son Jamie will go with me to the Real Madrid game on Aug. 7th.
But both teams were trying new players and different formations than what they are used to, so that is probably why there was no scoring.
I don't care! I got to see the "extras" like the guys stretching and communicating with the fans before the game. Martin Galmarini! He was being very funny, laughing & joking with fans and taking pics of himself and the other guys with a camera someone gave him!
I took a vid of the ENTIRE penalty kick segment with sound & everything. The quality is not that good because of a big light shining on the pitch and causing some glare, but I will post it later on!

The match wasn't good but that's always in friendlies, they try new players in different formations.
Penalties were very good! Poor Augusto! I had tears in my eyes! The goalie with the 'hard to write name' was very good!
Toronto has a very international team!
The artifical grass is irritating. Why is there NO natural grass? They should learn from the English people ;)

Oh, poor Augusto! He was so good in the small time he had on the pitch! When he ran onto the field it was like an electric shock ran through me. I stared...first thing I thought was "His ass is magnificent!" He looked bigger than I thought he'd be. Like he was tall where others were short, and his build was strong, masculine. He took charge and moved the ball forward very well and very creatively. I LOVE him mucho.♥ It is hard to believe he is only 23. I have to keep shaking my head. For me he seems about 5 years older.
Yeah, Toronto has a very good Argentine named Pablo Vitti. I've been collecting pics to do a picspam. Like Ernesto Farias, he is 'interesting' looking! They have other latinos too, although most of them are new guys.
They were stupid to put in artificial turf. Sure, it looks pretty, but around the time Augusto was subbed in it started to rain and a lot of the guys were slipping.
My husband is very picky! Everything has to be perfect or he gets upset. Don't get me wrong, he is a very nice man, but he says he cannot tolerate anymore when things are not just right for him.
LOL. I am uploading all my pics and vids. Is taking forever. So I guess tomorrow I will post!

Toronto is NOT an ugly team! They played very well and they should have won the match. But if you cannot put the ball in the net.... and the River goalie was the BEST player on the pitch. He should have been 'Man of the Match' but it's okay, they won the big trophy and the little trophy for Toronto.
Sleep a bit. I have to wait for more pics and vid!
*smiles* at picky husband. We love the men with all their 'pickiness'!
