SCHALKE VS STUTTGART FEB 2/08
Before I start this post, let me warn you that I am a HUGE Levan Kobiashvili fan! And Levan was back from injury for this game, the first game played at the post-winter-break-restart of the Bundesliga! Therefore, if you saw this game too, you may not recognize it because this report is so Levan-heavy! LOL.
I also enclose some pics from the game. I apologize for the watermarks, but they are all from Getty Images. :(
I also am a fan of Stuttgart and I was sorry that Serdar Tasci was not on the roster for today's game. Perhaps he is injured also.
FIRST HALF
Levan is so cute!!! His hair has grown out! LOL! It's the kind of hair that seems to expand when it grows! It almost looks bigger than him!!!
Stuttgart has a new guy in at left back today. His name is Christian Trasch. He's pretty cute--let's see how good a player he is. Apparently he is 20 years old and was brought up from the second division. Poor Stuttgart has been plagued by injuries this whole season so far, hence their poor showing in both the league and the Champions League, having been knocked out in the group stages and not even qualifying for the UEFA Cup.
Andreas Beck is playing right back for Stuttie--I believe he normally plays on the left. Hilbert has moved to midfield. I'm not expecting Stuttgart to play at their best today.
OOPS!!! Levan gets fouled hard only three minutes in. You bastards! Don't you hurt my Levan!!!
Six players from these two teams have been called up to the Germany National Team. They are: Hilbert, Hitzlsperger, Gomes, Westerman, Jermaine Jones and Keven Kuranyi.
Oh, I just heard that Serdar Tasci and the two Mexicans, Pavel Pardo and Ricardo Osorio are suspended.
Sami Khedira is fouled by Fabian Ernst at the 8-minute mark, while Fernando Meira looks on. Fernando does NOT look happy at all! XD
Levan sends Ernst a FABULOUS pass at 10 minutes but Ernst produces a HORRIBLE cross which misses the box by miles!!! Tsk! You totally wasted Levan's great pass, Ernst!!!
For me, Schalke looks a bit better than Stuttie, although both teams have been playing fairly equal so far. LOL. The announcer has mistaken Sami Khedira for Fernando Meira! Ah well, that can't be helped, can it???? LOL.
OOOHHHHHHH. Levan sends a great back-heel pass to Asamoah but he's offside! Crap!
Whoa!!! Levan breaks into a magnificent diagonal run, racing from the left side into the midfield at the 18-minute mark, but he is dispossessed just before he reaches the 18-yard box.
At 19 minutes Manuel Neuer makes a fantastic save from a Mario Gomes attempt on goal.
Levan has been outstanding so far! Oh shit!!! A cross comes in for Levan in the box and he can't thread the ball through the Stuttie players. So he passes it back to someone--can't see--is it Kuranyi? But he can't score.
Westerman takes a shot from midfield but it goes wide.
OMFG! On a corner kick, Meira kicks Sami Khedira in the face!!! It happened when Fernando tried to clear the ball! OMG, poor Sami!!! Fernando will have to make it up to him later! XDDD
After that happens, Kuranyi fouls Sami at the 26-minute mark. Poor Sami is getting kicked around a lot today!!!
The first card of the game comes for a high-foot challenge by Hilbert on Jones at 27 minutes.
Asamoah has had lots of chances, but everything has been cleared away. The Stuttgart defense has been strong today, with the help of Hilbert, too.
Ah, but then Kuranyi is brought down by Andreas Beck in the box. The ref doesn't call it a foul!!! This happens about 31 minutes in.
And on the ensuing free kick from Rakitic, Kuranyi sends in a great header for the first goal!!!
An interesting statistic from the announcer: Schalke have led so often this season, that if matches lasted only 45 minutes, Schalke would be in first place in the league by 5 points.
Levan has got a hot little body!!! Mmmm. I see a bulge while he fights Bastiuk for the ball near the touchline. LOL. He fouls Hilbert with a high-footed tackle and then hugs and pats him in apology. He is sooooo adorable!
Beck takes a shot at 41 minutes but it's no problem for Neuer to save. Hilbert fouls little Rafinha - he elbows him in the face - and is lucky not to get another yellow card!
SECOND HALF
Wow! Kuranyi scores again at 51 minutes. The GK fumbles and Kuranyi just kicks the ball over the line.
OMG! Sami Khedira just misses the net at the 57-minute mark but he is offside anyway!
Sorry, folks! I got stopped here because my sister called me and then kept me on the phone for an hour and a half!!! So I missed the rest of the game. But Schalke ended up winning anyway, by a score of 3-1. Poor Stuttgart. It looks like their season is going to end as it began!
Here are pics of the game:
Here is Levan vying with Mario Gomes:

Levan is celebrating here, but I am DBTC...

Awww....this is so cute of Levan and Ivan Rakitic. LOL. See how big Levan's hair is???

Here is Levan tackling Beck:

Levan jumping in the air. He had such a good match! He was everywhere!

And here they are celebrating one of Kuranyi's goals.

Sami and Fernando look upset.

Kuranyi scores his second goal past Fernando.

Stuttgart players looking dejected.

Date: 2008-02-08 12:20 pm (UTC)Neither was I, to be honest. Not only the injuries are a big problem, three key players were suspended for that match, and even though Pardo hasn't done too well this season, he's an important part of the squad. Also, there are barely any alternatives for the positions of left and right defender. They're lucky to have Beck, because he's doing very well, but with Boka at the Africa Cup and Osorio and Tasci suspended, it doesn't look too good. From what I read in a newspaper, Träsch did a good job, but he couldn't save the team.
You totally wasted Levan's great pass, Ernst!!!
Argh. I hate Ernst. >:(
The announcer has mistaken Sami Khedira for Fernando Meira!
*dies laughing* I really wonder why that never happens in German TV. They really do look a bit alike, especially from a distance! XD
Meira kicks Sami Khedira in the face!!!
Oh oh. You'll have a lot of making up to do, Nando! O_O
An interesting statistic from the announcer: Schalke have led so often this season, that if matches lasted only 45 minutes, Schalke would be in first place in the league by 5 points.
*LOL* The opposite applies to Bayern, I guess. Whereas Schalke tend to forget that the second half is for playing also, Bayern seem to think that the first half is part of the warming-up and not to be taken seriously. *SIGH*
I see a bulge while he fights Bastiuk for the ball near the touchline.
XDDDD I'm sure that wasn't because of Bastürk, though. *LOL* (At least I hope so! O_O)
Thanks for the match report! I appeciate it a lot because you focused on all the interesting things! (And I squeed about your "Levan-cam". XD)
Thanks also for the awesome pics! Aww, Levan, you are so cute. ♥
By the way, I still can't believe Löw called Jones up for the game against Austria. I don't want him in my national team. *sigh*

Date: 2008-02-13 03:05 pm (UTC)I think you've hit the nail on the head there. I'm sure all the injuries plaguing them has contributed to their depression right now. I'm calling it depression because that's what I feel it is. So many teams would just sack the coach, and while that might be a quick fix, it isn't going to solve the intrinsic problems.
Meira kicks Sami Khedira in the face!!!

That's what I was thinking too!!!! LOLLLLLLLL.

HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!! You never know!!!! XDDDDD

I LOVE the idea of a "Levan-cam"!!! *squeeees* Thank you so much!!!!

It's a bummer when there are ppl you hate on your NT. I have a dilemma. Because I was born in Canada and the Canadian team sucks so bad that Canadian players like Owen Hargreaves, Juan De Guzman's younger brother and now there's another guy--I forget who--elect to play for other countries where they are naturalized citizens, I am forced to turn to the other countries of my origin. Well, that gives us England (*facepalm*) who I simply cannot cheer for because Ashley Cole is on it!!!! AAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!! Even Wayne Rooney used to make me want to vomit but now I rather tolerate the guy. Then there's Scotland. I was actually proud that some of the Scottish teams did so well in the CL this year. But the third--The Netherlands--is my top choice to root for, thanks to my Dutch grandmother on my father's side! I really do love the Dutch team. ♥♥♥ Except during and right after the WC I was so pissed off when Van Basten was giving Ruud the cold shoulder. I ♥ Ruud so much!!!!! The big lug. Dammit. I've been meaning to make a Ruud icon.

Argh, I understand perfectly. I do have sympathies for some England players, but Ashley Cole... no. Any team he's on deserves my dislike.
I don't like the Dutch team as such too much, especially because van Basten is their coach, but I like a couple of their players. But hey, it's not as if I didn't have enough national teams to support, anyway. :D
I really need to finish that icon batch you requested. I'm such a slacker. :/
