For anyone who is interested, a short while ago I started a new comm called [livejournal.com profile] 4colombiafooty. I'm cross-posting my latest entry just to show you what it's about. In it I will be posting info, picspams and anything interesting related to Colombian football, a passion of mine. There will be info about league teams and the National Team. Currently, I am doing a picspam series on various players who are either on the National Team or are available for call-up.

This is my latest entry:

This very interesting and colourful player is only 23 years old but has had quite an eventful life so far. Here is a photo of Juan Carlos Toja:

Juan Carlos Toja Vega was born May 24, 1985 in Bogota. He joined Independiente Santa Fe when he was only 16 years old and was promoted to the first team in 2004. After playing two seasons with Santa Fe he moved to Argentine giants River Plate on loan. Unfortunately Juan struggled to make it into River's first team. He played 4 games in the Copa Libertadores and scored one goal. In 2007 he was subsequently loaned to FC Dallas in the MLS. At Dallas Juan became a fan favourite. His long hair made him reminiscent of rock legend Jim Morrison of the Doors, and the fans even held a "Juan Toja Wig" contest and wore long-hair wigs to games in his honour.

He is a tall left-winger, standing at 1.85 m, and wears #14 for Steaua Bucaresti in Romania.

Juan has always liked to wear his hair long, even though at school he was forced to cut it, but he would grow it out every summer. He has many rock 'n roll idols: The Rolling Stones, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, the Police, and he also likes salsa music.

A tragedy that occurred in Juan's life when he was 14 was when his younger brother Sebastian was killed in an accident. Sebastian was only a year younger than Juan. Juan's family has been involved in football since his grandfather on his father's side was Uruguayan and played for Penarol. The older Juan Carlos Toja later moved to Colombia and played for Independiente Medellin and Cucuta Deportivo. Even his maternal grandfather played for Santa Fe, Millonarios and the Colombia National Team. That grandfather's name was Victor Vega.

In August 2008 Juan was transferred to Romanian giants Steaua Bucaresti, where he joins his Colombian teammates Dayro Moreno and Robinson Zapata. In October 2008 he was called up to the Colombia National Team for their World Cup Qualifiers.

Now here is a picspam of Juan.
