DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA

I am making this post because I find Deportivo La Coruna an interesting team. A lot of people don't think so, in fact they consider Depor to be boring. But IMO, how could Depor be boring when it has players like the following?
This is a small picspam featuring some of my favourite Depor players.
This pic shows defender Ze Castro vs Raul of Real Madrid, back in January 2009.

Arguably Depor's biggest "star" is Andres Guardado. This 23-year-old left winger is from Guadalajara, Mexico and wears #18 for Depor. He is diminutive, standing at 1.69 m or 5' 6-1/2" but is impressively fast. He came to Depor from Atlas of Mexico in 2007, and has 47 caps for the Mexico National Team.
Here are pics of Andres:

Celebrating with Rodolfo Bodipo.

Rodolfo Bodipo.
This biracial 32-year-old striker was born in Sevilla. His father is Equatoguinean and his mother is Spanish. He is 5' 11-1/2" tall and wears the #9 for Depor. His National Team is Equatorial Guinea and he has had 8 caps.

Diego Colotto is a 29-year-old centre back from Rio Cuarto, Argentina. He wears #19 and is 6'-1/2" tall. His Argentine club was Estudiantes La Plata before moving to Mexico where he played for Tecos and then Atlas.

Juan Antonio Rodriguez, age 27, is a defensive midfielder born in Malaga. He is 6' 1" tall.

Juan Carlos Valeron is 34 years old and was born in Arguineguin, Gran Canaria. Interestingly, so was David Silva of Valencia, and both players are highly-rated, extremely talented footballers. Yet Arguineguin is a tiny fishing village southwest of Las Palmas, popular with Norwegian tourists in the wintertime, making it remarkably unusual to have spawned two such high-quality footballing talents of the same era. Anyway, back to Valeron...he wears #21 for Depor, is a midfielder and has 46 caps for the Spanish NT.

Riki, or Ivan Sanchez-Rico Soto, is 29 years old and hails from Aranjuez, Spain. He is a striker/winger who wears #11.

Ze Castro, or Jose Eduardo Rosa Vale Castro, is 27 years old, from Coimbra, Portugal. He is a 6' 0" centre back and wears #5. He has one cap for the Portuguese NT and was a star for the U-21s.

Some recent game pics...
Manuel Pablo, team captain, vs Fran Yeste of Athletic Bilbao.

Filipe (or Felipe), whose real name is Filipe Luis Kasmirski, is a 24-year-old, 5' 11" wingback or midfielder, with one cap for the Brazilian NT, but was a star for the U-20s. He suffered a horrific leg injury recently, putting him out for the rest of the season. Immensely talented, he is a fan favourite for sure.

Here with Juan Dominguez, a new young player for Depor.

Filipe has been coming to the games and watching from the bench.

Daniel Aranzubia, #1 goalkeeper, is a 30-year-old Basque from Logrono. He came out of the Athletic Bilbao youth academy but could not replace Gorka Iraizoz, so came to Depor. He has had one cap for Spain, and was the 3rd choice Spanish goalkeeper at the 2004 Euros.

With young Juan Dominguez.

Deportivo La Coruna are currently sitting in 6th place in La Liga with 41 points, directly behind Sevilla who have 43. Today these teams will play each other in Sevilla. It should be an exciting game!

Date: 2010-03-13 05:21 pm (UTC)Of course I like Andres but I have also liked Riki for a long time and Filipe. I am growing a liking for Colotto as well.
They are a pretty good team. I hope the game today will be an exciting one. They are showing it here, of course at the same time as the French one (Lyon vs St. Etienne) sort of...they overlap. The Lyon game starts first, then the Sevilla game will begin at the half-way mark so I will have to jump back and forth between games. Then I will watch the Sevilla last half!

Date: 2010-03-26 11:20 am (UTC)LOL. Ze Castro looked so young a few years ago when he was at Atletico Madrid that one time the camera flashed to him sitting on the bench talking to Antonio Lopez during a game. He was playing with his hair and I immediately thought, "Who is that pretty girl talking to Antonio and why is she allowed on the sub bench?" LOL. Then I realized it was Ze. XD
You're welcome! Thanks for your comment! :)
