I am not a gambler either! And I am unlucky at 'winning' things, so I never invest in lotteries either. :)
Selling stuff to raise money is a good idea. I watch a British show called 'Flog It!' in which people put their 'treasures' up for auction. Some things it surprises you how much money they can get for them! Others that look good fetch surprisingly little! It all depends on what collectors want at any given time, and this can change!
