~~

There are many photos that make me sad. This is just one of them.
It is very difficult to pick the saddest thing I can think of. Because LJ should be a place where you can go to have fun and not feel miserable, I did not want to post anything too traumatic. This took place in 1986, long ago enough so that maybe it will not have as much of an impact now as it did back then. I remember that I was working for a stockbroker at the time and I was reading the Dow Jones when the news came across the ticker-tape.

It is the Challenger disaster. The rocket ship which had on board a teacher as well as the astronauts. It was the first time that a civilian was to go into space. It was also the last. The Challenger exploded seconds after takeoff.

I also included one reporter's impression of the disaster. It is quite poignant so I thought I would post the link to it here.

I'm glad, I decided to go through your meme. (not sure if I'll manage all entries today but will definitely have a look at every single one some time.)

I didn't know about that!!! I'm shocked. O_O Ok, it was in 1986, the year I was born, but nevertheless... I'm really shocked that I didn't know. :(

That's really a horrible tragedy. :( I've no words. Thanks for letting me know about it!
