REAL MADRID - LA LIGA CHAMPS OR CHUMPS?
Jun. 14th, 2007 05:10 pmREAL MADRID are poised to walk away with the La Liga trophy on the eve of the departure of both iconic Galacticos David Beckham and Roberto Carlos. But it is still frighteningly tight at the top. Madrid are tied on points with Barcelona and Sevilla are only two points back of them. Last weekend saw all three of the top teams come away with ties--in heart-stopping games that were almost unendurable to watch. If someone were to have written the results in a fictional story it would not have been believable.
This Sunday Real Madrid have to beat Mallorca at the Bernabeu. It should happen. Think of the alternative. The Madrista fans will kill them if they don't win. Fabio Capello will be clapped in irons and spread on the rack. Barcelona are playing Gimnastic in Tarragon. 'Nastic have already been relegated and could very well win, simply because there is no pressure whatsoever on them. Sevilla have the toughest game of all three, playing a very hot Villareal on the road.
Well, I am predicting that Real Madrid will come through and win. They have the momentum, the will and more than anything else, the hunger. Hala Madrid!
Therefore, I dedicate this picspam to you, Madrid. It is a tribute to a season that started off lukewarm and got worse before it got better. But the last couple of months of watching your brilliant games have been the best entertainment I've ever seen in my life. I've never thought that David Beckham was what you'd call a team player, but I believe he has been at least acting the part these last few months. He will not let himself down in his last game with the team.
These are some of my favourite photos of the team from the past season.
