This is turning out to be the most nightmarish weekend/week I've had in a long, long time! Olivia's flight was supposed to leave Vancouver at 4:30 PM yesterday (Pacific Time) and be in Toronto just before midnight (EST). Ed and I planned to leave here around 11 PM to go and pick her up. But they had had some heavy snow in Vancouver (unusual for them), which caused a delay. And our snow here didn't help the situation either. We had more yesterday morning, but it stopped by noon and we haven't had any more since then. Aren't expecting any either.

But both storms (there and here) screwed up all the flights to and from the west coast. And when I booked Olivia's flight back in October, most Vancouver-Toronto flights for this time of year were already full. So I can imagine the number of people that have been affected by this.

Anyway, just before we were about to leave last night, Ed checked the airport's website and discovered that her flight was delayed by 2-1/2 hours, due to arrive at 2:30 AM today instead of midnight yesterday. So fine. We decided to go to bed in our clothes and try to get some sleep before driving to the airport. I set the alarm for two hours ahead and promptly fell asleep. When I woke up Ed was already up, had checked the website again, only to discover that the flight was delayed another 3-1/2 hours, due to arrive at 6:00 AM. So we went back to bed in our clothes, and I set the alarm for 4:30 AM. On getting up and going to make coffee, Ed went to check the website again. The flight was now delayed until midnight TONIGHT!!!! *Groan*. I went back to bed and slept until 9:00 AM. (Late for me.)

Olivia called us at 5:00 AM (I didn't even hear the phone) to tell Eddie that she had spent 10 hours at the airport, 3 of them on an airplane that went nowhere!!! It was a nightmare, with angry people venting their frustration at anyone and everyone, and total chaos. She was very upset, but I tried to reassure her that they simply cannot let airplanes fly in stormy weather, so everyone has to be patient! I tried to tell her that it should be OK now, because it has not snowed in over 24 hours. But there are a lot of catch-up flights that they have to accommodate.

Ed and I were all set to drive to the airport at 11:00 PM tonight, but I checked the website a bit earlier and discovered that the flight's arrival time is delayed until 3:00 AM!!! This is getting ridiculous, and now we are wondering if we will be seeing our daughter at all this Christmas!!!

I am going to watch a movie and then go to sleep, setting my alarm for 1:30 AM. Let's hope for the best, and not another 24-hour delay for her!!! So much for the shopping we were going to do today and tomorrow!!! (I've put some cash for her in a card!)

EDIT: Well, Olivia just called and it seems the flight got cancelled altogether. She has booked a new one, which leaves Vancouver at midnight tomorrow and should arrive in Toronto at 6:00 AM on the 24th! Let's just hope that after all this bullshit she arrives safely!
