DANIEL JARQUE: YOU WILL BE MISSED, SPECIAL ONE

Almost everyone on my flist is making a post about Dani, so please forgive me for making one too, but I feel I must. He was one of my favourite defenders in La Liga. He had such an aura of niceness about him even though he was a tough defender, but to me he seemed like someone who would have been a very good friend.

As I am sure his many fans felt. Rest in peace, Dani.

The coroner's van carrying the body of deceased Dani Jarque leaves the hotel in Italy.

The Espanyol team bus carrying the players enters the new stadium earlier today.

Fans leave tributes.

Yes...another one so young.
There are so many tragedies. Those we have read about while doing our research, like Andres Escobar, and others more recently like Juan Ojeda. I wonder how he is doing? Rene Higuita too. And Ruben de la Red, who was lucky last year that he did not pass away after he fainted. I still miss Antonio Puerta and I think that Sevilla is still not the same team without him. :(

OMG! Thank god for Ojeda! Sometimes amid some pain there is a happy story! Or a miracle! I am so happy for him! He may be able to resume his career.

His girlfriend is eight months pregnant... he would have become a daddy soon. :( This makes me cry.

OMG that is so similar to Antonio Puerta's story! His baby was born in October, and I believe he died in August! It was during the first game of the season in 2007. I remember it so well because we left for a vacation in Spain on September 1st and Antonio had died already. We went to Sevilla and I left a tribute at the stadium for him. :(

This is almost exactly the same thing. And to think Ruben could have suffered the same fate. No wonder they are being so careful with Ruben. Better to stop playing than to risk death. :(

Rubén may not return to play football again. As much as I always wanted him to, after this I don't. He should stay away, he would risk his life. I couldn't watch him play or practice without being worried. He has a family and like he once said, Rubén is more important than De La Red. His baby and family needs him more than any club can.

I agree. I feel the same way, no matter how much I liked Ruben and would like to see him play again!

oh, i saw his picture but i didn't know about his death until i see candlelight in front of his picture in this entry. So many people died this year. It's so sad. :(

May i ask what happened to him?

It's so very sad.

He was talking on the phone to his girlfriend, who is seven or eight months pregnant, in his hotel room in Italy. When he didn't come down for dinner, his roommate (Ferran Corominas) went to the room. (There was an article that said his girlfriend freaked when he suddenly stopped talking to her and called Coro to go and check on him.) The team doctors were summoned and tried to revive him but couldn't. I believe he was pronounced dead in the room because there was no ambulance that went to get him. Only the coroner's van came to take his body away. It was an apparent heart attack but I guess we won't know for sure until an autopsy is done.

The team was supposed to have played a friendly match against an Italian team and they had trained that morning. The match was called off and the Espanyol team returned home.
